Alumna spotlight.jpg

Corinne graduated in 2013. She was involved in LINK, DECA, and Speech and Debate. As well as the clubs she participated in, Corinne played a few sports at Beaverton, such as racquetball, cross country, soccer, and track. She did the Marketing Pathway as well as one year of Health Careers. Her favorite memories while at Beaverton was the trip she took to Saint Louis for racquetball nationals, cheering on her brother’s lacrosse team, and planning for Jam the Dam. Her favorite quality about Beaverton was how welcoming the community is to everyone.

After high school, Corrine went to Gonzaga where she majored international marketing and minored in German. She also ran track and cross country! Corinne is now the RFP/Proposal Manager at Moovel, a tech company that makes urban mobility apps.

In the future, Corinne plans to work abroad possibly in the Moovel offices in Germany. Her advice: Don’t be afraid to explore different hobbies and interests. High school is a great time to take risks to figure out what your future might look like. You might figure out you hate something you thought you liked or you might develop a new passion!

Meet senior Garrett Taylor!

Garrett is the LINK Crew Coordinator at BHS and he is heavily involved in Student Leadership. He is planning on starting a Ping Pong Club this winter before continuing as a varsity track athlete in the spring. After high school, he intends to major in biomedical engineering at a school in California or another sunny state! Garrett’s piece of advice for underclassmen is to cheer as much as they can at football games.

Excellence is truly all around us at Beaverton High and the best place to see it is in out students. A person who embodies the core value “Excellence Inspires Us” is junior Gabriella Lee.

Gaby is an example of excellence in our school community because of her dedication to her activities both in and out of school. Something many people do not know about her is that she is a competitive figure skater. She has been skating since the time she learned to walk, and she hopes to continue on someday to perform in shows all over the world. Gaby hopes to go out of state for college to study political science and history, and her dream school is Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her dream job is to be a lawyer and live in Atlanta, or somewhere on the East Coast.

Outside of school and skating, Gaby loves going to the gym, watching The Office, hanging out with friends and watching sports. Gaby loves the Blazers and a dream of hers is to marry an NBA player. Gaby Lee has bettered our school community by finding a need and completing it. Along with joining LINK Crew this year, she has started the Beaverton High School Black Student Union, a group that plans to improve the opportunities and success for black students at Beaverton, along with creating awareness about social justice issues in our community. She also hopes to create more representation for minorities in school activities and leadership.

Thanks to Gaby and her excellence, our school is a more inclusive and well rounded place.

Bucky’s Family: Eli Serrao

Meet Bucky’s Family member, Eli Serrao!

Eli Serrao is a senior at Beaverton High School. He has attended BHS for all four years and enjoys every minute of it. He’s part of the Marketing Pathway, National Honors Society, and LINK Crew. At school, you can catch Eli working the Pond (Beaverton’s student store) or posting content on the school’s social media.
His home life is very average; Eli lives with his Mom, Dad, and brother Zach. His mom is a third-grade teacher at Fir Grove Elementary school, and his brother is a freshman at Mountainside High School. The border change caused a lot of chaos in the Serrao household; they didn’t know where Zach was going to end up.
Something that people don’t know about Eli is he is an avid snowboarder. Eli goes up to the mountain at least once a week with his family and friends. He loves riding down the mountain because of how peaceful and stress-free it is.
Next year, Eli plans to attend the University of Oregon. He’s not sure what he wants to study but has an interest in economics and business. Eli hopes to find his passions in college as well as the optimal career for him. What he’s most excited about college is playing intramural basketball with his friends.

Bucky’s Family: Sley Vega

Meet Bucky’s Family member Sley Vega!

 Senior pic.jpg

Sley Vega is a senior at Beaverton High School who was born and raised in Beaverton, Oregon. Sley lives with her mom and her younger sister Camila, who is currently an 8th grader at Meadow Park and will be attending Beaverton next year. She also has an older brother Michael, who graduated from BHS with the Class of 2014 and goes to school in Arizona.

Sley is highly involved in different activities at BHS. She is a part of LINK Crew, National Honor Society, Welcome to the Dam, and Social Media Team. A big part of her time at BHS has been being a part of the Marketing Pathway. Through the classes she has taken, she has found that she is interested in pursuing some sort of business degree in college. She has loved being able to create meaningful memories with her fellow social media team members, and the opportunity to network and learn how to improve our schools social platforms through the trips she has been lucky to go on.

Sley and Jen

Outside of school Sley works two jobs. She is a nanny for an 8-year-old girl Monday-Wednesday and has been working at Sunset Lanes for the past two years as a birthday host and game room attendant on the weekends! When she has the time, she also volunteers at Play.Fit.Fun, an after school program where she helps kids stay active while playing games with them and teaches them the roles of leadership.

One of the coolest things Sley has done in her life was when she traveled to Cancun, Mexico with her siblings to visit her dad and they went swimming with a whale shark. Although it was scary in the moment to think she was swimming with a shark, it’s an awesome feeling to be able to say that she swam with the world’s largest species of fish.

Sley is looking forward to graduation and her top two schools right now are University of Oregon and Portland State. As much as she is looking forward to leaving BHS behind, she is also soaking up every last minute of what she will miss most which is the spirit at sporting events, her marketing classes, her teachers, and her awesome Beaver Lodge class. Some advice Sley would give to underclassmen is to make sure to always stay on top of things, step out of your comfort zone, and get involved! You will enjoy your time in high school so much more if you are able to find a club or activity you feel best fits you and create long lasting memories within these clubs.

Bucky’s Family: Morgan Presson

Meet Bucky’s Family member, Morgan Presson!

Morgan Presson is a current senior here at Beaverton. She lives with her mom Gina and her sister Sierra. Her sister is a sophomore here at BHS. Morgan was born in Illinois, and has also lived in Texas, California, and Oregon.

She is involved in volleyball, NHS, LINK Crew, and is the ASB Director of Elections on Student Leadership. Outside of school, she is a WyldLife Leader and barista at The Human Bean. Her favorite classes are AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography. Something people might not know about Morgan is that she always cries when she laughs, even if she’s not laughing that hard.

When asked how she would describe herself, Morgan responded that she is dedicated and hard-working. She wants to be an emergency room physician, and ever since she was young, she knew she wanted to help people and has always had an interest in the medical field.

Morgan’s biggest obstacle in life so far was moving to Texas her sophomore year. Having lived here in Oregon since third grade, it was very difficult for her to move away and leave all of her lifelong friends that she had gotten close to. She left her whole life in Oregon behind. She moved back here for the start of her junior year and is much happier now that she’s back in Oregon with her best friends. Morgan is looking forward to graduation, planning on attending a four-year university in California!

Bucky’s Family: Kayla Carreira

Meet Bucky’s Family member, Kayla Carreira!

Kayla Carreira is a senior at Beaverton. She was born in Hawaii, and her family moved to Oregon when she was five. She has a sister who is now in 5th grade. At Beaverton, Kayla participates in Advanced Health Careers, Link Crew, and NHS, and she is a part of Rebels for a Cause.

Kayla’s favorite part of Beaverton is the community because everyone is encouraged to get involved and is always supportive of one another. Her favorite teacher is Dr. Romanick; he always makes his lessons fun, and he was the one that inspired her to pursue a career in the medical field.

Outside of school, Kayla works at a chiropractic office. She also likes to cook and loves kids. After high school, Kayla is planning on going to college. She is still unsure where she will go but she thinks she wants to go to the University of Portland to study nursing. Some advice Kayla has for underclassmen is to stay involved at the school, and it’s okay to ask for help.

Bucky’s Family: Ainsley Adams

Meet Bucky’s Family member, Ainsley Adams!

Junior Ainsley Adams was born and raised in the same house her whole life in Beaverton, Oregon. Ainsley lives with her mom, Teresa, and dad, Brit and has no siblings. She used to hate being an only child but now realizes that it has taught her to be more independent and allowed her parents to give her more freedom and trust. Ainsley has a dog and a cat, that is like her sibling.

Ainsley is very family oriented and considers her cousins her best friends. Also, her dad’s parents live only 5 minutes away which makes it very easy to hang out with them all the time! Every summer, she goes camping at Fishermen’s Bend with her grandparents, uncle, aunt, and cousins. Also, Ainsley and her family have traveled to Maui, New York, and California. She loves Disneyland because it’s such a fun and happy place to go, and matches her bubbly and positive personality. One day, Ainsley hopes to go to Paris because it has always been on her bucket list.

Ainsley is very involved within the Beaverton community and has dedicated a lot of her time to school. In fact, Ainsley’s biggest accomplishment was getting through pre-calc with an A both semesters! She has been on leadership every semester and is currently the ASB VP of Student Relations. She is the Key Club secretary and part of the National Honor Society and LINK Crew.

This year, she joined Yearbook to try something new and continue to stay involved as much as she can. Ainsley’s favorite class was AP US History because she loves Ms. Kavan and believes that every student should take a class that teaches the history of our country. Mr. Meuwissen was also one of her favorite teachers because he made social studies super interesting and was very understanding and kind.

Her hard work and persistence continue outside of school, as she is a Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador and a competitive tap dancer for Beaverton Dance Center. She has dance competitions throughout the year and the summer of her sophomore year she had a national competition in Seaside. The day before, when she was walking out of her bathroom, a nail got stuck in her foot for a total of 2 hours. She persevered through this accident and still danced that weekend because she didn’t want to let the team down. Something that other students might not know about her is that she has been a vegetarian for 5 years. Becoming a vegetarian was a struggle at first, but as time passed, it became easier for her to order at restaurants and compromise to meals.

Ainsley loves music, especially Elton John’s classic hits. She has been to many concerts and is going to Billy Joel this December which she is extremely excited about! Ainsley loves spending time with her cousin Madison and singing Bruno Mars songs. Her favorite holiday is Christmas because of the music, decorating the house and all of her families parties and traditions. Every Christmas morning, the Adams family has Chorizo on little rolls which they have to buy from a very special place that her great-grandparents used to order it from. Ainsley’s family loves to follow traditions, especially during the holiday season because they are very close and love each other dearly.

Ainsley plans to attend an out of state 4-year university for a fresh start and to meet new people. When Ainsley grows up, she either wants to be a sports reporter or an event planner. In fact, she did an internship last summer to see how people plan weddings and found it magical. Ainsley is always finding ways to help others and wants to spread awareness that every person should be treated with kindness. Her mom taught her that you don’t know what others have gone through or what they are currently going through which has allowed her to have such a positive outlook on life.

Meet Junior Lily Potter

Hi! My name’s Lily Potter and I’m a junior at Beaverton High School. My position in student leadership is the assistant shadow coordinator. I chose that position because I want to help ease the transition from middle school to high school to the best of my ability. Plus, I get to work alongside Claire Arnold, the shadow coordinator, and she’s a pretty cool gal.

Lilly 1
I try to stay connected with the BHS community by participating in this years LINK Crew, Leadership program, and the spring tennis team. 2017 has been a very busy year so far. In the summer I traveled abroad to Costa Rica with an organization called Global Leadership Adventures. There, working in a small but hardworking group, I built a recycled tire playground in a small city on the Pacific side. The experience was truly eye opening and sparked an interest in future travels.

Lilly 2

I don’t plan on changing the leadership program by myself, but I do know that this new group is really special and we’ll all have something unique to bring to the table. As for making a difference, I just want to succeed in being someone the underclassmen look up to. I’m looking forward for this year especially because there are already so many new opportunities that I get to explore now that I’m older. So many doors have been opened and I’m excited to see where they’ll take me. I am nervous mostly about making sure I keep my grades up and staying healthy over the duration of junior year. I hear it’s the hardest year and I want to make sure my mind’s in a good place.

Meet Junior Delaney Slaikjer

I am Delaney Slaikjer, a junior at Beaverton High School, and my position in leadership this year is At Large. Having an At Large position means you get to form your own role in leadership and focus on what you really want to do for the school. With my position this year, I plan to work with the special education children. I want to make some kind of program where the special education kids can have buddies with other kids in the school and do fun activities.

Delaney 1

At Beaverton I am involved in Art Club, which is a place for you to go after school and feel free to do any form of art. This year I will be playing tennis for the second year. The third photo below is my tennis picture from last season. Tennis is a very fun spring sport that can be played in singles or doubles. I am involved in Link Crew which help new students transition into the Beaverton High School community. Outside of Beaverton High School I am a dancer. Also I am starting my own art company called Dandelion Designs by Delaney. I will be selling linoleum print cravings and be giving a percent of the money to charities supporting special education and science. The first two photos below are of me holding my Haystack Rock print in front of the real thing in Cannon Beach. My business on is dandeliondesignsbydelaney where you can contact me if you want to buy something.

I am excited and anxious to start junior year. I am interested in learning more about science, so next year I will be taking Physics and Biology. I thought STEM physics was interesting and I’d like to learn more about it. I am fascinated by space and space-time. I would love to learn about the physics of space. The last picture is of my brother and me at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City in front of the Willamette Meteorite that fell on Willamette, Oregon. I’m taking biology because I want to know if I would have any interest in a biology career.

Delaney 2

I am ready to see where this year takes me and how much I can accomplish.
